Code of Conduct
All students, parents, and visitors are expected to uphold the values of Tohkon Ryu Ju Jitsu:
- Treat all instructors, fellow students, and visitors with respect at all times
- Bow when entering and leaving the training area
- Follow the instructions of the instructor promptly and without argument
- No aggressive, reckless, or unsportsmanlike behaviour during training
- Bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated and may result in immediate dismissal
- Parents and guardians must supervise children before and after class
Training Rules
- Arrive on time for all classes; late arrivals should wait at the edge of the mat for permission to join
- Remove all jewellery, watches, and accessories before training
- Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed short to prevent injury
- No food or chewing gum on the training mat
- Water bottles must be kept at the edge of the training area
- Report any injuries or health concerns to the instructor before class begins
- Techniques must only be practised under supervision and with appropriate control
Attendance Policy
- Regular attendance is encouraged for consistent progress and development
- If you cannot attend a class, no formal notification is required, though it is appreciated
- Extended absences should be communicated to the instructor so we can support your return
- Grading eligibility may require a minimum attendance record as determined by the instructor
Uniform & Equipment
- New students may attend their first classes in comfortable athletic clothing
- A gi (uniform) will be required as you progress in your training
- Gis must be kept clean and in good repair; wash your gi after every training session
- Additional protective equipment may be required for certain classes or gradings
- Speak with the instructor about purchasing a gi and any required equipment
Billing & Payment Policies
- Membership fees are billed fortnightly via direct debit
- Your first trial class is completely free with no obligation
- There are no lock-in contracts; membership is ongoing on a fortnightly basis
- No grading fees are charged at Tohkon Ryu
- Payment methods accepted: direct debit via Stripe
- Failed payments will be re-attempted; please ensure your payment details are up to date
Cancellation & Refund Policy
- Memberships can be paused or cancelled with 7 days' written notice
- To cancel or pause, contact us via email at admin@tohkonryu.com or speak with the instructor
- Refunds are generally not provided for partially used billing periods
- In exceptional circumstances, refund requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
Health & Safety
- All students train at their own risk and must complete a waiver prior to commencing training
- Inform the instructor of any pre-existing medical conditions, injuries, or concerns before your first class
- If you feel unwell or are injured during class, stop training immediately and notify the instructor
- Students with contagious illnesses (e.g. skin infections, colds, flu) must not attend class until fully recovered
- A first aid kit is available on-site at all times
- Emergency procedures are posted in the training area; familiarise yourself with exits and protocols
